Humans who want to be heard... and humans who want to listen

After 3 very useful years and 2 quiet years, we are sunsetting this program. It did just what it needed to do when it was here, it was a tether for some many.

Thank you for trust; from those people who called and for all of the love and tending from volunteers who made the line possible for so long.

HISTORY

Who is the Listening Line for?

The Listening Line is for people who want to connect around grief, in its many forms and all its uncomfortable edges. You will be met with a listener who will hold space for you and your own experiences around grief, loss, and transitions.

Why don't we answer live calls?

The Listening Line is not a crisis line, and our staff are not trained crisis counselors. Scheduling time together allows our listeners to be present in holding a supportive, nonjudgmental space with you. If you are in crisis and need to talk to someone right away please contact Crisis Connections at 206-461-3222 or 1-866-427-4747 or visit crisisconnections.org

More about the Listening Line

What is the Listening Line?

The Listening Line © is a place for people to call and talk where they will be met with a non-medical, trained human who will hold space and witness the words of the caller without judgement.

Who has access to a safe neutral place to talk?  Many times it's people with insurance, telehealth, money or other means of privilege. By creating a training program in community and with community and training a large volunteer community, we hope to create access to listeners.

How was the Listening Line © created?
In 2019 A Sacred Passing held a one day conference, Une Bonne Mort ©, focusing on access, storytelling, and old/new thoughts in death care. During that time, six action groups were created to continue the work we started during the conference. Out of this developed this offering of community care support, in the form of a free phone line to cultivate access to companionship care.

How can I get connected to a non-medical listener?

Call 800-565-9731 to leave a voice message and you will receive a call back from a trained non-medical listener with in 24 hours.
