Please note that all workshops, classes, and community educational offerings are currently available online only and at this time are not self paced. ASP will update this website when in-person classes are being offered again. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for sharing your specific access needs, feedback, and suggestions for adapting, improving, and updating the curriculum as needed.
Types of Materials
The online course content includes text, written materials, audio, images, and video. Live lessons are currently offered through Zoom and community members are invited to have their cameras on or off throughout the course. All cohort members will be invited to participate through audio, video, chat during live lessons, in addition to asynchronous participation via Thinkific, Slack, and Instagram.
Depending on the person, written and video content may take dedicated time each week depending on your own learning needs, styles and reading speed. The course includes text, written materials, audio, and video. There are written notes/summaries provided for each class.
Currently, the course is offered in English, including live transcripts and closed captions via AI. Please reach out to ASP prior to registration if language translation services are needed, we will do our best to accommodate requests.
For many online courses and workshops, the curriculum is a hybrid model with LIVE and offline opportunities to learn. The courses create space for the group to set a pace together, they are not self-paced. Participants will be able to work through some content on their own, and some in class. All are encouraged to participate in weekly discussion groups with other learners.
Coursework is updated seasonally by facilitators and includes reading, exercises, online discussions, journaling, note-taking, watching videos, and listening to audio. The course also includes suggested podcasts, movies, and reading.
Depending on the circumstances ASP may request consent for recording. Please note that this can only occur if ASP has the dates in advance, and with the written or verbal consent of all participants including teachers and students.
Many webinars and panels are recorded when they are provided for the public and/or for community education. These recordings are available for anyone and uploaded on our Vimeo page.
Time & Environment
In developing this curriculum ASP and facilitators have taken steps to make the structure and content available to a variety of learning styles. Time for breaks, moments of rest, and community building are prioritized in ASP learning spaces.
While there are some storytelling and lecture presentations, the majority of our courses are seminar-style. We believe in community wisdom, each course is unique to those who are in attendance, all ASP courses are participatory and learner engagement is celebrated. Reflection, journaling, and engaging with materials outside of the live sessions are highly encouraged and needed for full engagement of the offerings.
Cohort & Small Groups
Our classes are generally between 16-20 cohort members to facilitate a participatory group learning environment. Participants will be asked to work through the content as a cohort each day of live class, with some individual and small group activities. In addition, there are several resources and opportunities to engage with materials asynchronously in-between live classes. After the course is completed, participants are invited to continue participation in self-paced discussion groups with other learners.
Communicating with Instructors
Participants will receive all Zoom Access / Online Learning details via email from email@example.com prior to the first class day. Please check inbox, spam, and other folders for all emails and save us to your email contacts if needed.
If any participants need to contact the instructors / facilitators for any course please email firstname.lastname@example.org, you can expect to receive an email back within 24hrs during the day as a registered student of an active course. If you need to reach the course instructors via text / phone for accessibility, please let us know in advance of the course and we will contact you with a number that you can use to reach us.
All courses and workshops are offered at a sliding-scale rate and each offering will have details for fee/cost information listed. The curriculum are be available to both individuals and groups, please use the registration form for individuals and email for group scheduling.
A space will be reserved once a person's investment is made in full, or cost assistance zeros the balance. If you can pay more, please do. Our reduced-cost program depends on those who can invest at full cost. Please complete the registration form or email email@example.com to inquire about investment options.
Sliding Scale Registration
All ASP education and services are available with multiple price points based on the circumstances of the person/organization/institution paying. The sliding scale represents the idea that financial resources, including income, are not and should not be the only determining factor in whether or not someone can have access.
For support determining where you may fall on the scale, please see The Green Bottle framework originally created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk with additions from Britt Hawthorne.
Custom payment plans are available for all students, please take note of the registration fee and email us to let us know what timeline would best fit your needs. We will then confirm your registration and send an invoice to you directly for online payments. After payment of the first invoice, you will receive an invitation to complete the registration form, and additional information will be sent via email at least one week before the date of your class.

"Hello, my name is Crow. I am interested in taking the death doula training during Winter 2019. I can pay the middle sliding-scale $1,050 registration fee by arranging a plan of 5 payments at $210 per payment. I can make my first payment next week, and twice-monthly payments after that."
In honor of generational Queer, Trans, and Black, Indigenous, People of Color / Global Majority (QTBIPOC) mentorship in death care work we offer an honorarium for people who are both Queer/Trans and Black, Indigenous, People of Color / Global Majority. These are offered in commitment to building toward QTBIPOC-centered wisdom and abundance in death care and education
All honoraria are available on a first-come-first-reserve basis for each class. Please reach out via email and let us know how much financial support is needed to make the course possible for you. This offering is most often a 20-45% reduced registration fee on our courses & workshops. Sometimes we get funding and are able to waive up to 100% of the fees, please let us know what you need.

"Hello, my name is Raven. I would like to enroll in the Advance Care Planning workshop next week. I am a Queer, multi-racial Brown person of color and my friend told me that you offer an honorarium for QTBIPOC. I could pay some of the lowest sliding-scale $50 registration fee. Can we please arrange a cost reduction? I can pay $35 (reduced by 30%) for the workshop."
Cancellation / Rescheduling Notice
Student registration payments go directly to paying the educators a living wage for their offerings, and all facilitators & teachers are contractors working with A Sacred Passing. For these reasons, we MUST have full enrollment for courses to happen. If enrollment is below 16 students, we are unable to host the class.
When this happens, students will be transferred to the earliest available cohort that fits their availability. Students are responsible for their participation in courses if they are enrolled. As a nonprofit organization, we are working towards financial sustainability for all crew.
ASP does not offer refunds for enrollment. If enrolled students wish to reschedule their course date, we are able to accommodate this on a limited basis by rescheduling that person and moving them to a new course.
ASP will not refund any enrollments which take place in the three weeks prior to the first day of class. This boundary is to facilitate the necessary planning of ASP's preparation of paying all contractors equitably and arranging course materials.
Students who email notice of cancellation due to illness or death, are entitled to a refund of all monies paid within three days of paying tuition AND three weeks before the first class. If a student remains enrolled in a course after this period ends (3 days after registration AND 3 weeks before class begins), that person will remain enrolled in the course through the end and A Sacred Passing will not refund the payments.
