Accessibility in ASP Education

Learning with ASP

A Sacred Passing teaches from a community-centered framework in which all persons are witnessed and seen as valuable in their inherent worth and dignity. You are invited to come as you are with an open heart and open mind. We invite all person(s) to work together to push and expand on our shared understanding of creativity, justice, and inclusive community care.

Our courses include discussion of dominant cultural norms, implicit bias, and integrating self-accountability and justice-based frameworks into companionship (doulas, death workers, community members, cultural care workers, et al) at end-of-life and in death. While these topics are foundational to our curriculum, ASP does not offer introductory training surrounding bias, oppression, and cultural humility. Please show up prepared to create agreements for our space together.

Accessibility Details

All ASP courses are participatory and learner engagement is expected. Time for breaks, moments of rest, and community building are prioritized in ASP learning spaces. In developing this curriculum ASP and facilitators have taken steps to make the structure and content accessible to a variety of learning styles. Our classes are generally less than 12 cohort members.

For many online courses, the curriculum is a hybrid model with LIVE and offline opportunities to learn. The courses create space for the group to set a pace together, they are not self-paced. Participants will be able to work through some content on their own, and some in class. All are encouraged to participate in weekly discussion groups (on Slack – or within the learning platform) with other learners. Coursework is regularly updated by facilitators and includes reading, exercises, online discussions, journaling and note-taking, watching videos or listening to audio.

Depending on the person, written and video content may take dedicated time each week depending on your own learning needs, styles and reading speed. The course includes text, written materials, audio, and video. Please reach out to ASP prior to registration if language translation services are needed, we will do our best to accommodate requests.

Do not hesitate to contact classes@asacredpassing.org for sharing your specific access needs, feedback, and suggestions for adapting, improving, and updating the curriculum as needed.

Time & Environment

This curriculum is offered through Zoom in four hour blocks on three days. This course is live. Participants will be asked to work through the content as a cohort each day, with some individual and small group activities. After the course is completed, participants are invited to participate in self-paced discussion groups (on Slack – or within the learning platform) with other learners. Coursework is regularly updated by facilitators and includes reading, exercises, online discussions, journaling and note-taking, watching videos or listening to audio. The course also includes suggested podcast, movie, music, and mixed-media.

For honoraria / scholarships only: In honor of generational Queer, Trans, and Black, Indigenous, People of Color / Global Majority (QTBIPOC) mentorship in care work and in hopes of building towards QTBIPOC-centered wisdom and abundance in death care and education, ASP currently offers cost-assistance / scholarships to reduce the overall fee of the program for Indigenous, Black, Brown, Trans and Queer community members. Please reach out via email and let us know how much financial support is needed to make the course possible for you.
